Burton EMS implements a comprehensive quality control process that integrates quality measures at every stage of product development and manufacturing. Quality planning begins with a Design for Manufacturability (DFM) review to ensure that product designs are optimized for production. A Bill of Materials (BOM) health evaluation is conducted to verify component specifications and availability, which minimizes risks related to sourcing. Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) is used to identify potential failure points within processes, assessing their impacts and implementing preventative actions. Additionally, a cross-functional New Product Introduction (NPI) process engages multiple departments to streamline the transition of new products into production.

Throughout production, quality is consistently monitored. Incoming inspections focus on custom components and Printed Wiring Boards (PWBs), also known as Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), with each batch inspected according to a sampling plan to ensure they meet standards before release to production. During Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) processes, solder paste is inspected (SPI) prior to component placement, followed by Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) to verify each assembly’s component presence, alignment, solder joint quality, polarity, and orientation. In the Plated Through-Hole (PTH) process, pre-solder checks confirm proper component placement and orientation, while post-solder evaluations validate placement, lead protrusion, and solder joint quality.

To ensure ongoing quality throughout production, inspection audits are performed at every value-added production step. Trained inspectors review the first piece and subsequent samples to confirm correct component installation, solder joint quality, orientation, polarity, and ongoing process acceptability. A final manual inspection is conducted on all units, which are scanned into a custom inspection database, where test documentation is verified before shipment. This layered approach to quality control demonstrates Burton EMS’s commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable products through a series of thorough checks and controls across every stage of production.
