Case Study: Higher Performance, Lower Cost
The challenge: An industrial OEM saw an increasing number of field returns on a system controller sourced from another supplier. The OEM called on Burton for help.
The Burton approach: Our team partnered with an outside lab to perform a failure analysis on several of the assemblies, which indicated the components were actually performing to specification. As a next step, the Burton team reviewed the customer documentation. That’s when we discovered that for the same assembly, a customer-initiated ECO, a component had been changed in error. We’d found the source of the performance issues in the assembly.
The result: Burton devised a re-layout of the board that corrected the performance issues. And at the same time, our redesign of the board reduced unit cost by 25%.
