One of the most critical stages of the PCB (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) or HLA (Higher-Level Assembly) NPI (New Product Introduction) process is ensuring the designed product is ready for manufacturing. To avoid costly delays and redesigns, it is imperative that OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) partner with an experienced, quality-driven Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider. Concise and quick communication between the designer and the EMS provider during the design and prototyping stage is critical. The Design for Manufacturability (DFM) process moves more rapidly when there is a partnership during the design and prototyping process. The process between the prototyping and DFM can take days to complete. With an on-premise DFM tool, the process can take hours and can decrease the entire turnaround time to the OEM.

Our customers have spoken, and we have listened. They asked for new technologies, expanded prototypes, decreased turnaround times, added automated supply chain management, and design engineering services. In response, Burton Industries has invested in a new intelligent NPI software program called VAYO. VAYO offers faster programming for DFT (Design for Test) analysis and testing through CAD and BOM data. The goal for adding this software is to shorten the quote and NPI timelines through automation. In addition, this automation will add increased detailed Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly for test reviews. Along with lifecycle management software (Silicon Expert), the risk for costly changes that require certification during the entire lifecycle of the product is reduced. VAYO connects directly to a multitude of apps and company tools to unify and filter customer data. VAYO requires CAD data to perform the following functions:

The difference between using Burton Industries for prototyping versus a quick-turn design house has one main factor. This factor is the commitment that Burton Industries has to the manufacturability of the product. Every step of the design and production process is analyzed to determine DFM, DFP, DFT, and timeline per customer request. VAYO will speed up this process, eliminate unnecessary steps, and ensure minimum errors through every step of the process.

Burton Industries has made continued capital improvements in equipment and production space. The expansion and additional equipment will continue through the second quarter of 2022.
